- As an avid traveler, Matt has explored much of Europe and Central America. He's spent months backpacking throughout Europe, settling in Malta on and off for two years, as well as spending much of his first years traveling in and around Guatemala.
- While Matt enjoys international travel to experience new cultures, he also appreciates the geographical diversity of domestic travel within the U.S. He particularly enjoys visiting national and state parks to camp, hike, and unplug for a few weeks.
- Matt has worked as a professional writer and editor for two decades both online and offline. Along with writing for the travel industry, he's also edited one book called Super: The Autobiography of Scott Dixon, which chronicled the life of the Scottish professional boxer, and served as managing editor of Line Up Magazine, a print lifestyle publication.
Experience
Matt started his writing career while still in college as a creative writing student. While attending university, he became a feature writer and editor for a variety of print publications covering sports, art, music, and travel. After this time, he continued to write largely for the travel industry, publishing pieces for Goway Travel, Afar, Trazee Travel, as well as online travel agencies. Matt continues to enjoy traveling to new places and inspiring others to do the same through words.
Education
Matt graduated from the University of North Carolina in Wilmington with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Creative Writing, with a minor in English. This educational track included courses in both fiction and nonfiction writing, magazine writing, and journalism, preparing Matt for a career in creative storytelling and professional writing.
